More about how I work
Selecting a “director” should be an experiential process that practices both freedom and detachment. No two directors are the same. Much can be learned about yourself by observing how and what you choose in a director. I invite people to meet with me three times at first and we review annually whether I am still providing a level of companionship they value.

I encourage clients to consider making an annual “individually guided retreat”. (Google for offerings near you if this is a new idea. You can add Ignatian to the search if you like and select as many days as you choose.) Most centres offer “quiet days” and residential retreats of varying lengths within which you see a SD every day for an hour. Some are in silence, others simply encourage a spiritually reflective attitude.

Journalism Public Relations. Organisational change. Executive Coaching. Artist. Spiritual Direction.
New Zealand 1980s
London 1990s and 2000/10s
I began my career in Wellington trained in journalism and entering public relations very early as a consultant to the financial and agricultural sectors.
At the Financial Times, I was PR for the new online publishing arm of the newspaper and several years later, moved back into consultancy work with Hill & Knowlton. In the 1990s, I worked in Geneva for several years for The Chase Manhattan Private Bank before returning as Managing Director to a London financial PR operation until I abandoned being an expert for my clients. I delivered strategic and executive coaching on my own account and for a USA Human Resources corporate.

United Kingdom part-time
I'd earned early retirement from the corporate world, so I picked up my teenage dream and designed my own art degree, beginning with the Royal School of Drawing, Heatherley's School of Fine Art in Chelsea and Dulwich Art School. It was only a matter of time, though, that my love of consulting to others 1:1 led me to a three-year training in Spiritual Direction with the Jesuits's London course in Ignatian Spiritual Direction. Now I have the best of both worlds professionally and geographically.
